RDO (Responsible Dog Ownership) Day 2010
 

Our fifth year at the Pittsburgh Mills Mall for Responsible Dog Ownership went very well. This was the busiest year we've had so far, with the amount of people who stopped by our set up non-stop. Our theme was a Food Drive for Pets which was to benefit Animal Protectors in New Kensington. We had a representative, Susan, from Animal Protectors join us for the day to provide information about animals that they have available for adoption along with becoming a responsible pet owner. We held a Coloring Contest for children in two age groups, 5 & under and 6 - 10. The winners will receive by mail a McDonald's Gift card. Conner H. was our judge. Conner's time there helped him to earn community service hours. Conner did a fine job of helping with organizing the coloring of the page provided and also with selling raffle tickets. We had three baskets donated by Deb, Joan and Coleen (2 dog and 1 cat) and also another basket donated by one of our Meet the Breed attendees. Meet the Breeds is always a hit! Thank you to Coleen, Joan and Deb for arranging for our breed participants. Our breeds in attendance were Havanese, Standard Poodle, Papillion, Beagles, French bulldogs, Pointer, Weimaraner, Shihtzu, Dalmatian, English Cocker and Mastiff. Our own Irish were Drummer, Molly, Bailey and Tula. Our Irish girls were a perfect representation of successful rescue placements in wonderful homes. It's nice to see such happy dogs that so much deserve it. Information on being a responsible pet owner, along with a huge supply of informational brochures on every subject possible concerning your dog, was provided by AKC. We thank everyone for the pet food donations, including Petland and a few of their employees. All of the food and cash collected at this event will go to Animal Protectors. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped to make our event a success. Thank you to the Mills Mall for always being so accommodating to our event. Congratulations to our 4 basket winners and two coloring contest winners.
