ISCA National
Oconomowoc WI

“Come Home to the Heartland” - Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, June 6th through June 13th, at the Olympia Resort & Spa Host Resort.

Well…..our trip was a great time, as always..old friends, new friends! It started out cold and rainy on Monday, reminding us of Lancaster. Could it be another wet national? We woke up on Wednesday to a beautiful sunny and pleasant day! It was a bit windy…enough to send some canopies through the air and into the ring! They were quickly scooped up and returned to their spots! Thursday brought a warmer day. The different clubs had many raffles of nice items, with something for everyone. The Western Irish Setter Club was very grateful for our basket donation, as was the ISCA Rescue for the basket donated by Joan to the rescue Raffle. Coleen was quite lucky to win several raffle baskets and items, while Deb won THREE pooper scoopers! Can that be telling her something? Coleen also won the third prize of the crystal collectable piece, which was part of the Health Foundation Raffle. How lucky was that?

Members that attended this year were Joan, Coleen, Deb & Skip. It was an exciting week in the ring.

Joan's “Diddle”, Redheart Kenobi Over the Moon won his 9 – 12 sweepstakes class of 10. “Dewey”, AM & Int’l CH Kenobi Just Do It, RN, CGC, placed 4th in Veteran’s Sweeps from a class of 10.

“Diddle” made the cut in the regular 9 – 12 puppy classes.

Miss “Bea” Courtwood Quilting Bee, was part of the Stud Dog class with her dad, “CH Captiva Quitte Our Double, and placed 3rd.

BOB entry was 78. Both “Drummer” Am & Int’l CH Ballymera's Glory Days of March, and “Claire”, BISS CH Courtwood Cobblestone, made the first of two cuts. The dogs were seen in groups of 10 with the cuts only 3 – 4 from each group. Not bad for 2 year olds competing with some very seasoned and mature dogs!

Skip, Deb & Joan thank Coleen for expertly handling their dogs, and Coleen also handled her own “Miss Beatrice”.

Both Western Irish Setter and Irish Setter Club of Milwaukee out did themselves in hosting. They had complimentary breakfast each day and also lunch on Friday and Saturday. Friday night’s Pig Roast was moved inside and was quite tasty. Saturday’s Awards banquet dinner was excellent.

At this year’s awards for 2009, “Quincy”, CH Courtwood Quennel was runner up in both the Golden Leash and Winners Awards. Congratulations to Sally Evans and “Quincy”.

“Drummer”. CH Ballymera's Glory Days of March, was runner up for the Winners Dog award. “Drummer” was the winner of the Reserve Winners Dog Award. Congratulations to Joan.

“Drummer” also won the Bred By Exhibitor Award, which went to Coleen. Congratulations to Coleen.

Championship Medallions were picked up for “Drummer”, “Quincy”, “Claire”, and  "Dugan" CH Saxony's Boutonničre along with “Ian”, Touchstone’s Chills and Thrills, RN, TT, CGC for his RN title.

This was probably one of the most astounding line ups of Irish at a national that we’ve have seen. The competition was tough. The Breed lineup took your breath away. Watching three past national winners (plus one that was in Veterans) was simply amazing! While getting a placement is exciting and rewarding for anyone, getting your wins and placements from a tough line up of competition is the most rewarding and exciting, taking a person to a whole new level of appreciating the competition of our beautiful breed.
