Henrietta Paserba Paserba My husband, Bob and I have enjoyed living with Irish Setters for over five years. After thirty years, and three Miniature Dachshunds later, we decided to investigate a larger pet for our family. Bob was raised with large hunting dogs; I only knew the little Dachshunds. In December, 2000, all changed with the addition of Holly (daughter of Captiva Kennel’s Donnatella Virsaci and Rider (Rides with the Wind). We were not accustomed to the need for exercise with the Irish, but after a few months, Holly was off to the fields and woods just about every day. She loved the running plus it was a great way for us to get our exercise. She was a great companion and a sweet introduction to the breed for us. Unfortunately, Holly was only with us for two and a half years. Katie (Catherine McCrea) joined our family
the summer of 2003. She is from Barbara Cochran’s Sunsetter Kennel. Her mother
is Sunsetter’s Lady of the Evening and father, Sunshine’s Unbridled Beau. Kate
is just the joy of our lives. With her soft sweet face and her love of
cuddling, she quickly took over our hearts. She also was introduced to the
fields and woods quite early and has quickly developed into a true pheasant
setter. A huntress, she is, with her moves from brush to cornfields, her
marvelous tail moving slowly or perhaps in the distinctive, “I’ve got it” fast
circular. She has truly encouraged us to get out, get moving, and enjoy the
gorgeous Pennsylvania country. Kate also enjoys running with her “cousins”
Muddie, a sweet brown Lab, and Josie, a lovely golden retriever. Kate and
Muddie have developed into a true hunting pair—Kate provides the scenting and
Muddie the tracking. They are a remarkable pair to watch. Cousin Josie comes
along to learn the sport, wrestle, and chase.
